Katharina Fritsch was born in Essen, Germany on February 14, 1956. She studied at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, where she continues to live and work. Since her first show in 1984 she has exhibited widely in Europe and North America.”

“Internationally renowned artist Katharina Fritsch creates iconic sculptures and images that imprint themselves on the mind. Evoking fairy tales, folklore and myth, the appearance of Fritsch’s works creates a tension between the familiar and the uncanny, the humour in her work tempered by an incessant sense of unease. She is best known for Rat-King, a nightmarish vision of a circle of rats linked by the accidental joining of their tails, which has its roots in European folklore.”
